Donât go thrifting when you are tired or hungry. You need some patience and focus. If you are hangry, you wonât have the stamina to sort through stuff and could miss out.
Navigating the store
Just like every store, stuff is organized by category, color, and sometimes by size. Depending on the size of the thrift store, shoes may have their own section or be displayed above the shorter clothing racks. Here are some tips as you navigate the thrift store for the first time.
Have an item and section in mind. If you are looking for a specific item, like womenâs shoes, go to that section first and see what they have. Youâre likely to be more successful in thrifting if you are focused and not randomly searching through endless racks of clothes.
Pay attention to items at the end of racks, around the dressing rooms, and even at the checkout counter. These are items that sparked some other personâs interest, and although that other person didnât end up buying them, they may be good items.
Hold onto items that catch your eye. Donât rush to try on one item but keep it in-hand and keep browsing. Donât get too excited to try on one item that might not even fit and miss on out other great stuff. Thrift store items are typically one of a kind.
Iâve had a leather jacket on my thrift list for a while but missed out on one because I didnât use this strategy. I was at a consignment store and got distracted by a pair of strappy Celine heels. The lady at the counter even offered to hold them for me while I shopped, but I was overeager. While I was busy trying on the shoes, another lady walked in and picked up the leather jacket of my dreams. She purchased the jacket, and the heels didnât fit me.
